Capitalism

Capitalism

"

Forget about the fact that capitalism requires the existence of a mass underclass of surplus labor. Lying takes the form of mass media creating the myth that [the] feminist movement has completely transformed society, so much so that the politics of patriarchal power have been inverted and that men, particularly white men, just like emasculated black men, have become the victims of dominating women..

When this collective cultural consumption of and attachment to misinformation couples with the layers of lying individuals do in their personal lives, our capacity to face reality is severely diminished as is our will to intervene and change unjust circumstances.

"

"They talk about the failure of socialism but where is the success of capitalism in Africa, Asia and Latin America?"

Fidel Castro

"Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of leaders…and millions have been killed because of this obedience…Our problem is that people are obedient allover the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves and the grand thieves are running the country. That’s our problem."

Nouriel Roubini is a mainstream economist who teaches at New York University and may be best known as one of the early predictors of the ‘08 crash.

He is no Marxist.

But today, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Roubini admitted that Marx was right about Capitalism and raised the possibility that Capitalism is destroying itself in the way Marx outlined more than a century and a half ago.

"With what moral authority can they speak of human rights — the rulers of a nation in which the millionaire and beggar coexist; the Indian is exterminated; the black man is discriminated against; the woman is prostituted; and the great masses of Chicanos, Puerto Ricans, and Latin Americans are scorned, exploited, and humiliated? How can they do this — the bosses of an empire where the mafia, gambling, and child prostitution are imposed; where the CIA organizes plans of global subversion and espionage, and the Pentagon creates neutron bombs capable of preserving material assets and wiping out human beings; an empire that supports reaction and counter-revolution all over the world; that protects and promotes the exploitation by monopolies of the wealth and the human resources of whole continents, unequal exchange, a protectionist policy, an incredible waste of natural resources, and a system of hunger for the world?"

“Hmmmm, your problem is capitalism!”

"The few own the many because they possess the means of livelihood of all … The country is governed for the richest, for the corporations, the bankers, the land speculators, and for the exploiters of labor. The majority of mankind are working people. So long as their fair demands - the ownership and control of their livelihoods - are set at naught, we can have neither men’s rights nor women’s rights. The majority of mankind is ground down by industrial oppression in order that the small remnant may live in ease."

— Helen Keller, 1911

It really frustrates the hell out of me that the only public mention of Hellen Keller in any modern context is to poke fun at her disabilities. Keller helped to found the modern day American Civil Liberties Union, wrote extensively on the exploitation of the working poor (particularly those with medical issues), and was a member and contributor to the Industrial Workers of the World. She was a badass and a passionate socialist radical. I intend on posting a more in-depth background on her in the future.

Critics attempted to diminish the impact of her work by saying that her embracing socialism and activism was obviously the result of her “limits in ability and development”. All you are doing is participating in the perpetuation of that lie.

Not to mention the actual jokes on her disability are really tasteless and unfunny (at least to me). We get it, she was disabled, are you guys over it yet or can we move on to her actual achievements?

The official jobless rate is in for the month of April. Unemployment went up — to 9 percent.

What? You didn’t know that? Then you’re like most people, who try to find out what’s happening by watching television or reading commercial newspapers.

So how can unemployment be going up if the number of new jobs is increasing? The capitalist media came up with various explanations. The New York Times said it was because the number of new jobs came from payroll data while the unemployment figure came from household interviews. Others said it was just a fluke.

Tell that to the 205,000 additional people out of work in April. Losing your job, especially in tough times like these for the working class, is like a dagger to the heart.

And what about young people trying to get their first jobs? Whatever jobs were created last month, they didn’t affect unemployment in the 16 to 19 age group. It is still at the highest ever since the government started keeping these records — a whopping 25 percent.

And in Black communities, the jobless rate for all ages is twice that for whites — proof that institutional racism is entrenched in the United States, no matter who is president, and “equal opportunity” is just a mirage.

Felt the need to highlight that.

"We have deluded ourselves into believing the myth that capitalism grew and prospered out of the Protestant ethic of hard work and sacrifices. Capitalism was built on the exploitation of black slaves and continues to thrive on the exploitation of the poor, both black and white, both here and abroad."
