Anonymous Just Deleted CBS.com and Took Down Universal

Taking a shorter break than their last vacation, Anonymous is back at it already. Reports are coming in that they had completely knocked out CBS.com and are continuing their revenge spree. The CBS takedown wasn’t your regular DDoS attack because if you went to CBS.com at the time Anon attacked it, there was nothing except an index page with a single file. That’s it. Basically, Anonymous gained access to CBS.com and deleted EVERYTHING.

CBS.com has managed to put itself back up but we’ll be on the lookout of Anonymous’ next move. This is going to be interesting. Last time Anon went on a revenge spree, well, the DOJ, RIAA, MPAA, Universal, EMI, FBI and others all got a piece of the takedown fun.

Update: Looks like they just took down UniversalMusic.com again too!

Update 2: Anon is now going after websites in Brazil. The Hacker News reports that websites of Brazil’s federal district, the city of Tangara da Serra and popular Brazilian singer Paula Fernandes have been brought offline in a DDoS attack. Anonymous’ message on the affected websites? “If Megaupload is down, you are down too.”

Update 3: Vivendi, a French media company involved in music, film, TV, video games, etc., has been brought down too. Vivendi used to own Universal

Good Afternoon, How Are you? How long have you been blogging on tumblr? You're blog is slick!

Thank you! I’m quite alright, In terms of strictly personal blogging? about 2 years now. In terms of science blogging? about a year or so. This blog started as a personal one since I didn’t know what to do with it, and now it’s locked on science, scifi and art. I have other side blogs as well. There’s my personal art blog for my hand drawn traditional sketches and doodles as well as art & illustrations I like, ArtistCompilation.

A science-only blog with none of my personal posts I run as a community thing for other upcoming, unappreciated bloggers called Scinerds. The Scinerds consists of my science-comrades; CrownedRose (of Geologise)- Whom specializes in mostly geology, landscapes and paleontology. EpistemophobiaRunsDeep, PieceinThePuzzleHumanity, TorgoTheGreat, Project-Argus whom all blog general science and occasionally some space love. And lastly but not least, our physics guy, Aamukherjee. We’re still lacking another physics guy/gal, Animals, Technology, Psychology, Neuroscience, and what ever else people might want to specifically blog under as long as it’s not another space blog. So I advise anyone interested to head on over to Scinerds and be prepared to show some preview posts off your own blog.

And lastly, another community blog with another science editor and friend RealCleverScience, Carton-Rouge (of Occupy movement on tumblr), Mohandasgandhi, PieceinThePuzzleHumanity, Johngaltso, and CultureOfResistance for all things politics, activism„ worldly news updates and concerns with a bit of humor and a lot truthiness over at WeSpeakForEarth.

If you like my blog, I personally suggest following every blog mentioned here.. except for my personal art blog since it’s mostly just my art.

Leave us a note on why you think you can make an A.) relevant member or B.) relevant administrator to the blog aside from just following. “If you want to free a society, just give them Internet access.” These were the words of 30-year-old Egyptian activist Wael Ghonim in a CNN interview on February 9, 2011, just two days before long-time dictator Hosni Mubarak was forced to step down under pressure from a popular, youthful, and peaceful revolution. This revolution was characterized by the instrumental use of social media, especially Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and text messaging by protesters, to bring about political change and democratic transformation.

This article focuses on how these new types of media acted as effective tools for promoting civic engagement, through supporting the capabilities of the democratic activists by allowing forums for free speech and political networking opportunities; providing a virtual space for assembly; and supporting the capability of the protestors to plan, organize, and execute peaceful protests.

"

The problem is that the policy makers the world over are paying more attention to the fossil fuel lobbyists than they are to the well being of young people and nature, as my colleagues and I have described in the paper “The Case for Young People and Nature”.

Until the public demands otherwise, the policy makers will continue to serve their financiers.

That’s the point of the present action — to draw attention to the inter-generational injustice of current policies — our children and grandchildren are getting shafted by our well-oiled coal-fired politicians who do not look beyond their next election.

The tar sands verdict will show whether he really intends to move us to clean energy or whether he will instead support going after dirtier and dirtier fuels (tar sands, oil shale, mountaintop removal, long-wall coal mining, hydro-fracking, deep ocean and Arctic exploration, etc.).

"

Top American climate scientist, James Hansen, in an interview on the Alberta tar sands pipeline protest, the Obama Administration and intergenerational justice. You can read his paper, ‘The Case for Young People and Nature’, here.

Happy to note that our activist and rationalist blog for the community at We Speak for Earth is growing and we intend to expand our truths and articles through different continents. Strategically speaking, there is a very real danger that if we naively put our cards on the table and rally around the “overthrow of capitalism” or some equally outworn utopian slogan, then our Tahrir moment will quickly fizzle into another inconsequential ultra-lefty spectacle soon forgotten. But if we have the cunning to come up with a deceptively simple Trojan Horse demand … something profound, yet so specific and doable that it is impossible for President Obama to ignore … something that spotlights Wall Street’s financial capture of the US political system and confronts it with a pragmatic solution … like the reinstatement of the Glass-Steagall Act … or a 1% tax on financial transactions … or an independent investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice into the corporate corruption of our representatives in Washington … or another equally creative but downright practical demand that will emerge from the people’s assemblies held during the occupation … and if we then put our asses on the line, screw up our courage and hang in there day after day, week after week, until a large swath of Americans start rooting for us and President Obama is forced to respond … then we just might have a crack at creating a decisive moment of truth for America, a first concrete step towards achieving the radical changes we all dream about unencumbered by commitments to existing power structures.

So, let’s learn the strategic lessons of Tahrir (nonviolence), Syntagma (tenacity), Puerta del Sol (people’s assemblies) and lay aside adherence to political parties and worn-out lefty dogmas. On September 17, let’s sow the seeds of a new culture of resistance in America that fires up a permanent democratic awakening.

I’m going even if I’m the only one of my circle of friends there.

occupywallstreet:

Inspired by the visceral potential of the Wall Street occupation, the Indignados of Spain just sent us word that on September 17th they too will set up camp outside the Madrid Stock Exchange. The surprise announcement, that their #TOMALABOLSA will join your #OCCUPYWALLSTREET, may embolden other cities as well. A rumor suggests the financial district of Paris may be next … or will it be Toronto’s Bay Street, Sydney’s Martin Place, or some yet to be chosen site in London?

This is the definition of awesome, I hope many people join here as well.

Under-Reported Story of the Week: Protests in Chile. The protests have been about a wide range of issues with the government but have centered around and been dominated by student protests about education issues. Thousands at a time have been marching through the streets of the capital of Santiago and in other cities throughout the country in recent days. The primary demand of the student protesters is a free public education system for all in Chile. They are joined by parents, teachers, and regular members of the community.

Yesterday, students of the Metropolitan Technological University in Santiago set up a flaming street barricade and clashed with police. In past days, the number arrested is nearly 1000. A BBC article calls these demonstrations, especially the night-time cacerolazos (“saucepan protests”) reminiscent of pro-democracy protests against General Pinochet in the 80s.

Today, the students received a verbal chiding from President Sebastian Pinera as he signed into law a bill meant to appease them.

We all want education, healthcare, and many more things for free, but I want to remind them that nothing is free in this life. Someone has to pay.

Opposition to Pinera, the first conservative president since Pinochet left power, is growing. Unions representing public sector workers and copper miners have vowed to join the students. His popularity is dropping with the protests in the past months, reaching an all-time low of 26% in a poll published last week. That’s the lowest rating for a Chilean president since 1990.

A protest against the Santiago mayor is being organized for August 16th and another massive protest also in Santiago for September 3rd. Organizers are hoping to draw half a million people.

Ask Rep Lamar Smith to Give Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act a Hearing!

In order to move forward HR 2306 has to be scheduled for a hearing before either the House Judiciary Committee or the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Both of these committees chairmen (Rep. Lamar Smith & Rep. Fred Upton) have so far refused to schedule one.

Sign this petition today and let’s send a message to Representatives Smith and Upton, HR 2306 is sound public policy and deserves a hearing.
