Year’s Best Meteor Shower Peaks This Week
Stargazers are about to get their annual celestial treat: A bright meteor shower, the Geminids, will grace skies worldwide this week, with a peak in activity on Thursday (Dec. 13).

No telescope or binoculars are required to see the show — just use your bare eyes. The moon will set before the meteors come out to play around 10 p.m. local time, meaning the sky should be nice and dark for optimal viewing. There could be as many as 100 to 150 meteors an hour to gape at, for those patient enough to spend a few hours in a dark area and let their eyes adapt to starlight.
The Geminids, unusually among meteor showers, are the leftovers of an asteroid (most showers originate with comets). They are caused when rubble from the asteroid hits Earth’s atmosphere, lighting a path through the sky as it burns up.

New Rules for Meteorite Hunters Unveiled
The new directives cover all space rocks found on public lands.
can’t wait to throw the octopus under the jellies, I’m gonna sketch that out myself. this one was done by the awesome Luis over at the shop I’m at in Higher Level Tattoos.

“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.” — Carl Sagan
Art/stencils by me, tattoo work by Kujo @ HigherLevelTattoos. Planning on adding more to this relating to astronomy.
On my new DPR/ Drug Policy Reform blog I will be bringing back old posts I’ve made which would be relevant to this new blog for today before I start posting new content or content specifically for the DPR blog. So stay tuned for that and would be greatly appreciated if supporters of this cause can promote the new blog, I plan on putting a lot of effort into the content and it will consist of the politics behind prohibition as well as the science, data and statistics that show we don’t need a war that’s meant to tell us what we consume or not. As I mentioned earlier, I’m looking for writers to join the team.

Clear Satellite View of Earth’s Newest Island
The new island is part of the Zubair Islands, located about 60 kilometers (40 miles) off the coast of Yemen. The new island and its older family members poke above the sea surface, rising from a shield volcano.

Can’t wait
The qualities of a high-temperature superconductor — a compound in which electrons obey the spooky laws of quantum physics, and flow in perfect synchrony, without friction — appear linked to the fractal arrangements of seemingly random oxygen atoms.
Those atoms weren’t thought to matter, especially not in relation to the behavior of individual electrons, which exist at a scale thousands of times smaller. The findings, published Aug. 12 in Nature, are a physics equivalent of discovering a link between two utterly separate dimensions.
“We don’t know the theory for this,” said physicist Antonio Bianconi of Rome’s Sapienza University. “We just make the experimental observation that the two worlds seem to interfere.”
